Alright It s been awhile. So heres an update.

A couple of things. I know my website has been down for a few months and I apologize. I ll break down the breakdown. I was starting a project to develop a communtiy site for a few friends of mine and myself. The problem was i wanted to make it scaleable to reach beyond me and my cohorts. So after doing some research and the whatnot i found what i was looking for. CMS. a content management system. after reading and watching a bunch of youtube videos trying to sort out what was a good CMS and a less good CMS i decided on implementing drupal. An opensource CMS that is supported by the people that use it much like linux. Anyhow me with my limited (0)web building knowledge decided to get my hands dirty in Http,php,css and so on. if that sounds like some foriegn words to you thats the boat i was in back in december. Any how i figured i should really go forth and learn it for myself so i could also redisign my site eventually after i learned enough on my project. Seeing my friends that always gave me a hand with the website stuff all left detroit during the ongoing mass exodus from michigan. So all geeked up and ready to start and jump right into it i installed drupal not knowing a thing about file structure with in hosting. Well that was a mistake as i got drupal up and started playing with what drupal has to offer. All the while not realizing my site got squashed in the process. My brother was kind a nuff to let me know. Any how I decided at that point i would stop the project i was working on and learn drupal and rebuild my site first. So onward ho developing a theme and working out hosting kinks. So now things are coming along and have my test site about half way there. My test site is my ol 7teen.us site. so feel free to check it out just realize it is a beta site and its a work in progress. I am learning as i go here meanwhile holding down the hatches at GM and keeping the kids and wife happy. Not to mention actually working on my artwork. Which also brings me to let you know that I will be having a Solo show here in detroit at Re:view gallery which is an incredible space and i am super excited to be having a show in the D. its been a few years and gives me a chance to work on some different stuff. So with that I will sign off and leave you with a pretty rad artist talking about his work.

On a somewhat lighter note as of late.... Here is a piece that i just finished up and shipped out to Cali for a show at Distiction Gallery titled Infinity Squared. The show was curated by Kelly Vivanco . The piece is made up of 3) 8 x 8 in paintings found on reclaimed board and painted with a bunch of reclaimed paints per usual. The peice s underlying story is about the rise in unemployment that is currently plagueing the US and possibly more specifically here in Detroit. The "Big Three" and how it effects you and me

OK, so I promised some other than politics post but I ve been working out plans and considering my future. As some of you may know I am an employee of General Motors as a sculptor and as some of my previous post mentions I do not like Government intervention into business, mostly because they don t have a great grasp on things. However the fact that there is little support of LOANing 25 billion to the automakers is making me a bit perplexed. How is it that the government will hand over close to a TRILLION dollars to the banks and will not LOAN 25 billion to 3 automakers. Here is my theory. What do the automakers represent .... working class americans, Unions, and the old american pride. Banks represent .... the elite. There are great misconceptions of the american auto industry by the masses these days as americans remember the crappy cars of late 70s to the mid 90s and they are pissed that there home grown automakers made crappy cars (It takes a long time to wear a negative or a positive perception off in the auto industry). however that was when they started to begin with legacy costs of retirees, started trying to compete with foriegn imports and the whole globalization of the industry, and hence had to start to rely on big SUVs for there profits. Partially because that is what the people wanted. If you want to get on the "Green" tip check out GM Responsibility Reports. After reading it I realized even my perception was tainted to some extent in that regard. If you want to talk about quality then you should take a look at how General Motors has rated in quality the past few years. We have been a company on the rebound and making cars that people are starting to notice and have the desire to purchase. I can tell you that since I have started my career here that has been a huge shift in quality, thinking and execution. I thought I would share a video in regards to the Big Three Crisis seeing the bought and paid for media, and government are not endorsing. In fact they are strongly opposed. Again I am not for government intervention into business (and even more so against business intervention of government) but I am for Freedom and power of the people. If the nearly Trillion dollar bailout didn t go to the banks I would probably be singing a different tune. If this Loan does not pass I feel it will be a huge power grab for the elites and hence another huge punch in the gut of the already financially abused american people.

Thats gonna have one hell of a trickle down effect If Any of the big three fail.

Here is a pre written letter that you can use to contact your congress to let them no that the bail out is a tragic transfer of wealth from the poor, middle class, and even some of the upper class to the few powerful bank owners and possibly including Paulson. Also you can use this link to find your congressan to express your concern to before they vote on the bill that was Passed last nite.

Dear Representative/Senator:

I urge you to oppose Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson's $700 billion bailout of Wall Street.

The bailout:

- violates the Constitution by authorizing the Treasury to purchase bad mortgage-related assets.
- greatly enlarges our national debt and further erodes the value of our dollar.
- bails out Wall Street at the expense of Main Street by putting taxpayer funds at risk while freeing up banks to continue making bad loans.

Already, hundreds of billions of dollars have been spent bailing out Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, and AIG, and the final price tag for those moves could result in trillions of dollars being added to our national debt.

The bailout plan ignores the fundamental reason why our economy is in such crisis: the Federal Reserve and the federal government's interference in the market and manipulation of the money supply spurred major banks and other corporations to back bad mortgages.

Adopting this proposal will only continue the same flawed practices and greatly worsen the long-term effects.

The way out of this current economic crisis is to return to the principles that made this nation great: constitutionally-limited government, personal freedom, low taxes, and a belief in sound money.

I am asking that you strengthen our economy by taking action to:

1.) End the Bailouts - The Federal Reserve's authority to use taxpayer money to bail out Wall Street must be revoked and the Fed must be held accountable.

2.) Cut Taxes and Curb Regulation - If we really want to stimulate businesses and revive the market, we need to cut corporate and capital gains taxes, spurring investors to come back to the market and making it easier to attract new workers and clients. It is also time to repeal failed legislation like Sarbanes-Oxley, which has crippled capital markets, diminished our competitiveness, and greatly harmed small businesses.

3.) Reduce Spending - We must freeze all non-entitlement spending by the federal government at current levels and eliminate wasteful spending both domestically and in our trillion-dollar overseas budget. Our debt has to come down, and it won't until we start living within our means. Reducing spending and cutting the debt will strengthen our dollar and reduce our cost of living.

4.) Reform the Monetary System - If we are to have long-term economic progress, we must end the system of printing money out of thin air. The current laws limiting the circulation of gold and silver-backed currency must be overturned.

Thank you for your attention in regard to this matter. I will be closely watching as events unfold over the next several days. A vote to approve the bailout plan will cost you my vote for your next reelection bid.

“I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.”

Save yourself from the "RESCUE PLAN"

I just recieved an update email from a former presidential candidate about the 700 BILLION dollar bail out (they are now refering to it as a Rescue Plan). I don t know if anyone has been watching all the political crap that they have been throwing on the tele these days but more and more of them are talking to Ron Paul (wish he would have gotten the press about 9 months ago when he was talking about this stuff). So i thought i would share with you his letter seeing its a good one. Also i will be throwing out some more light hearted posts in the coming days. just need to get some images off the ol camera. alright now i ll pass the mike to my man RP.

Dear Friends:
The financial meltdown the economists of the Austrian School predicted has arrived.

We are in this crisis because of an excess of artificially created credit at the hands of the Federal Reserve System. The solution being proposed? More artificial credit by the Federal Reserve. No liquidation of bad debt and malinvestment is to be allowed. By doing more of the same, we will only continue and intensify the distortions in our economy - all the capital misallocation, all the malinvestment - and prevent the market's attempt to re-establish rational pricing of houses and other assets.

Last night the president addressed the nation about the financial crisis. There is no point in going through his remarks line by line, since I'd only be repeating what I've been saying over and over - not just for the past several days, but for years and even decades.

Still, at least a few observations are necessary.
The president assures us that his administration "is working with Congress to address the root cause behind much of the instability in our markets." Care to take a guess at whether the Federal Reserve and its money creation spree were even mentioned?

We are told that "low interest rates" led to excessive borrowing, but we are not told how these low interest rates came about. They were a deliberate policy of the Federal Reserve. As always, artificially low interest rates distort the market. Entrepreneurs engage in malinvestments - investments that do not make sense in light of current resource availability, that occur in more temporally remote stages of the capital structure than the pattern of consumer demand can support, and that would not have been made at all if the interest rate had been permitted to tell the truth instead of being toyed with by the Fed.

Not a word about any of that, of course, because Americans might then discover how the great wise men in Washington caused this great debacle. Better to keep scapegoating the mortgage industry or "wildcat capitalism" (as if we actually have a pure free market!).

Speaking about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the president said: "Because these companies were chartered by Congress, many believed they were guaranteed by the federal government. This allowed them to borrow enormous sums of money, fuel the market for questionable investments, and put our financial system at risk."

Doesn't that prove the foolishness of chartering Fannie and Freddie in the first place? Doesn't that suggest that maybe, just maybe, government may have contributed to this mess? And of course, by bailing out Fannie and Freddie, hasn't the federal government shown that the "many" who "believed they were guaranteed by the federal government" were in fact correct?

Then come the scare tactics. If we don't give dictatorial powers to the Treasury Secretary "the stock market would drop even more, which would reduce the value of your retirement account. The value of your home could plummet." Left unsaid, naturally, is that with the bailout and all the money and credit that must be produced out of thin air to fund it, the value of your retirement account will drop anyway, because the value of the dollar will suffer a precipitous decline. As for home prices, they are obviously much too high, and supply and demand cannot equilibrate if government insists on propping them up.

It's the same destructive strategy that government tried during the Great Depression: prop up prices at all costs. The Depression went on for over a decade. On the other hand, when liquidation was allowed to occur in the equally devastating downturn of 1921, the economy recovered within less than a year.

The president also tells us that Senators McCain and Obama will join him at the White House today in order to figure out how to get the bipartisan bailout passed. The two senators would do their country much more good if they stayed on the campaign trail debating who the bigger celebrity is, or whatever it is that occupies their attention these days.

F.A. Hayek won the Nobel Prize for showing how central banks' manipulation of interest rates creates the boom-bust cycle with which we are sadly familiar. In 1932, in the depths of the Great Depression, he described the foolish policies being pursued in his day - and which are being proposed, just as destructively, in our own:

Instead of furthering the inevitable liquidation of the maladjustments brought about by the boom during the last three years, all conceivable means have been used to prevent that readjustment from taking place; and one of these means, which has been repeatedly tried though without success, from the earliest to the most recent stages of depression, has been this deliberate policy of credit expansion.

To combat the depression by a forced credit expansion is to attempt to cure the evil by the very means which brought it about; because we are suffering from a misdirection of production, we want to create further misdirection - a procedure that can only lead to a much more severe crisis as soon as the credit expansion comes to an end... It is probably to this experiment, together with the attempts to prevent liquidation once the crisis had come, that we owe the exceptional severity and duration of the depression.

The only thing we learn from history, I am afraid, is that we do not learn from history.
The very people who have spent the past several years assuring us that the economy is fundamentally sound, and who themselves foolishly cheered the extension of all these novel kinds of mortgages, are the ones who now claim to be the experts who will restore prosperity! Just how spectacularly wrong, how utterly without a clue, does someone have to be before his expert status is called into question?
Oh, and did you notice that the bailout is now being called a "rescue plan"? I guess "bailout" wasn't sitting too well with the American people.
The very people who with somber faces tell us of their deep concern for the spread of democracy around the world are the ones most insistent on forcing a bill through Congress that the American people overwhelmingly oppose. The very fact that some of you seem to think you're supposed to have a voice in all this actually seems to annoy them.
I continue to urge you to contact your representatives and give them a piece of your mind. I myself am doing everything I can to promote the correct point of view on the crisis. Be sure also to educate yourselves on these subjects - the Campaign for Liberty blog is an excellent place to start. Read the posts, ask questions in the comment section, and learn.
H.G. Wells once said that civilization was in a race between education and catastrophe. Let us learn the truth and spread it as far and wide as our circumstances allow. For the truth is the greatest weapon we have.

Alright here is an insightful post from a blog by George Ure that i read from time to time and thought all of the nations freedom lovers would like to know about. So with out further ado heisted from a post entitled One Chance to "Save America" - How to Save the Day with Private Sector Coinvestment

The first thing you need to understand is that any media reference to the Resolution Trust Corp's bailout of the Savings and Loan mess is a deliberate misleading of American public opinion so that our collective life savings can be hijacked by the bankers cabal.

The key difference to keep in mind is this: In the case of the RTC, when the assets were rolled up and resold, the main players went out of business. In the flim-flam now being pulled on the American public, the main players will not only stay in business, they will make new fortunes paid for with your tax dollars.

Oh, and if you think this stinks, that's the smell of greed.

Now how to fix it? There is a very simple way - and I would urge you to write something along the lines in an email to your federal elected representatives:

Dear (elected official):

I am writing to demand that any bailout of investment bank include a mandatory requirement for private co-investment.

As you know, the current plan proposed by the Treasury - and now being rushed through approval is designed as follows:

Financial Institution with 'bad paper' will be able to sell their paper to the government.

The government will then sell this paper to other investors at whatever discount they need to in order to 'keep the system alive'.

The buyers of this paper from the government have no incentive to bid up prices because the farther the asset valuation falls, the more money the bankers will make.

Ultimately, the public will fund the difference between the current valuation of the instruments and however low these same investment bankers can drop their bids.

Obviously, this is an absurdity because under Game Theory, the lower the bids are when the government sells, the higher the yields on these debt instruments.

What's worse, an instrument sold my one firm, such as hypothetically Goldman Sachs (or more likely the Goldman Sachs Asset Management group) could ultimately be purchased from the government bailout agency purchased by Morgan Stanley. At the same time, a hypothetical Morgan Stanley\asset sold to the government could ultimately be picked up - dirt cheap - by the same Goldman group selling their hypothetical paper.

To my way of thinking, this "bailout" is a flim-flam deal. The investment "banksters" could 'wash the paper and take the spread' as things are presently proposed. As a Taxpayer, I am appalled and demand a better solution.

Is there an alternative? Of course!

Write and enforce a new provision requiring that any sales of government purchased instruments to private firms retain a minimum 90% public participation. Thus, when the [toxic waste] bonds are resold by the government, the tax paying public which is footing the bill would be compensated for its risk. Give the paper vultures compensation with a small 1-3 basis point spiff for managing the public's side of the deal.

The new deal structure would look like this:

Financial Institution with 'bad paper' will still be able to sell their paper to the government.

But because the government will sell only a maximum 10% private share (the rest being the public's skin in the game) the markdowns would likely be less.

The public would retain a 90% ownership position. Thus any profits made by the paper vultures would be diluted 10:1 and the public compensated for its risk.

In this way, the public would make back much of its initial cost and the debt load on the American financial system would be lessened dramatically - reducing the ultimate cost of the bailout dramatically.

As you can readily see, this approach - let's call it Private Sector Coinvestment - will work very well, although now that the investment bankers have "seen the green" in the form of the rudimentary "bailout plan" which is nothing short of a banker's coup d'état, will scream bloody murder when a rational and money saving plan is proposed.

It all comes down to whether you represent the interest of the People, or the interests of the Bankers who began their theft of the American economy in 1913, but that's another story.

As a vote in your district, I beseech you to look out for the interests of the American Taxpayer and honor the intent of the Framers to defend and protect this Great Nation.

I am back in the D after a week out in Los Angeles for my mini solo "against the grain" at Thinkspace Gallery. I wanted to give thanks to all that made it out as it was a great turn out and tons of fun people and artists that i have admired and respected for several years. Stella Im Hultberg and Allison Sommers killed it as well as we all are holding down the gallery for the month of August. I would like to give a shout out to the TO boys ( Martin Wittfooth, Jon Todd, and Dustin Jenner) and Amanda for the company and the good times. I would also like to especailly thank Andrew and Shawn Hosner for all the support and effort that they put forth for the show and Kristian and Debbie Olson for there hospitality, company, and assistance for the duration of my stay.

The CDC estimates 76 million a year get sick from food. 325,000 are hospitalized and about 5,000 die.

FDA data shows you are three times more likely to eat dangerous pesticide residues on imported foods.

In imported foods the FDA has found illegal pesticides, parasites, diseases, unknown and unapproved drugs, and unsafe color additives,,,, Vibrio, caused by seafood, increased 78% in last 10 years.

WHAT HAS THE USDA DONE ABOUT THIS?
Texas A&M University, using USDA data, reports: A monetary trade surplus was created by EXPORTING USA HIGH QUALITY beef products and IMPORTING LOW QUALITY beef products.

The USDA has decrease the inspection of imported food from 8.0% to 0.6% WHILE IMPORTS HAVE DOUBLED SINCE THE MID NINETIES.

“At Hallmark/Westland:....the report shows USDA inspections were NEVER DONE UNANNOUNCED and plant managers told staff to refrain from inhumane handling practices when the inspectors were present.

U.S. Department of Agriculture plant protection and quarantine officers have been indicted on charges that they allowed infested agricultural products into the U.S. from Mexico.

The USDA has spent over $33 million each year for years 2006 and 2007in funding NAIS.

WHAT IS NAIS
NAIS is the red herring promoted by World wide corporations and the World Trade Organization (WTO). NAIS is supposed to calm the publics fears about food safety.

NAIS requires farmers to register farms and tag animals. Property would become Premises and livestock part of the “National Herd”. Farmers become “stakeholders” or trustees and no longer would have any property rights. NAIS will violate several Constitutional Rights.

80% of America's food animals are owned by a few hundred big businesses. NAIS as written would not affect them since individual tagging of animals is not required for large herds. Only the over 2 million small farmers and horse owners must tag each animal, eliminating animal ownership by any but BIG business, RESULT: high priced factory farm food.

WHO IS TO BLAME FOR UNSAFE FOODS?
Treaties & the World Trade Organization: Measures to trace animals...to provide assurances on...safety ..have been incorporated into international standards... The Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures...Aims to ensure that governments do not use QUARANTINE AND FOOD SAFETY REQUIREMENTS as Unjustified trade barriers... It provides Member countries with a right to implement traceability{NAIS} as an SPS measure.

As an american artist i am constantly questioning the moves of the powers to be. And during this campaign season for presidency i have come to the conclusion to support a Canidate that i know what i am getting when i give them my vote. Dr. Paul has a impecable record of voting for the people and lobbyists won t even approach them because he doesn t support special interests of corporations. I ask that you do research for yourself and look at all the candidates and make your best judgement. Well that time has come to pack my bags after a week of packing flurry and last minute mayhem. Not to mention a trek across the great white north to the other side of Lake Erie for a beautiful wedding at the Knox estate (Founder of the Albright Knox) for a very good friend and coincidentally my cousin and his wife Amber, some highly emotional grandma visitations, and an installation at the University of Michigan down in Ann Arbor including the opening. Now its back to the daily grind at the motors of general for about 6 more hours including a trip for my habitual monday burrito then finish packing personal wardrobe and supplies needed for this second week of travel, visitation and most importantly aesthetic happiness that some refer to as art.

Also wanted to give you a lil peek at what i will be bringing that will be available to the masses for consumption and making the walls more lively in whatever venue they choose be it offices, homes or fornification dens. Both colorways or of the limited kind one being more exclusive then the other. The thoery on this is heavily dependent on color and global warmings effects. Its pretty simple the warmer the rarer. Well i ll stop the babble and hopefully see the hordes of beautiful people that populate the left coast at the opening. DH IV

And it will only take place because it is being done without any public awareness or participation; it goes directly AGAINST the very foundations of FREEEDOMOF THE PRESS in the entirety of American history.The U.S. Post Office is in the process of implementing a radical reformulation of its rates for magazines, such that smaller periodicals will be hit with a much much larger increase than the largest magazines.Because the Post Office is a MONOPOLY, and because magazines must use it, the postal rates always have been skewed to make it cheaper for smaller publications to get launched and to survive. The whole idea has been to use the postal rates to keep publishing as competitive and wide open as possible. This bedrock principle was put in place by James Madison and Thomas Jefferson. They considered it mandatory to create the press system, the Fourth Estate necessary for self-government.It was postal policy that converted the free press clause in the First Amendment from an abstract principle into a living breathing reality for Americans. And it has served that role throughout our history.What the Post Office is now proposing goes directly against 215 years of postal policy. The Post Office is in the process of implementing a radical reformulation of its mailing rates for magazines. Under the plan, smaller periodicals will be hit with a much larger increase than the big magazines, as much as 30 percent. Some of the largest circulation magazines will face hikes of less than 10 percent.The new rates, which go into effect on July 15, were developed with no public involvement or congressional oversight, and the increased costs could DAMAGE HUNDREDS, even THOUSANDS, of SMALLER PUBLICATIONS, possibly putting many out of business. This includes nearly every political journal in the nation. These are the magazines that often provide the most original journalism and analysis. These are the magazines that provide much of the content on Common Dreams. We desperately need them.What the Post Office is planning to do now, in the dark of night, is implement a rate structure that gives the best prices to the biggest publishers, hence letting them lock in their market position and lessen the threat of any new competition. The new rates could make it almost impossible to launch a new magazine, unless it is spawned by a huge conglomerate.Not surprisingly, the new scheme was drafted by TIME WARNER, the largest magazine publisher in the nation. All evidence available suggests the bureaucrats responsible have never considered the implications of their draconian reforms for small and independent publishers, or for citizens who depend upon a free press.The corruption and sleaziness of this process is difficult to exaggerate. As one lawyer who works for a large magazine publisher admits, "It takes a publishing company several hundred thousand dollars to even participate in these rate cases. Some large corporations spend millions to influence these rates." Little guys, and the general public who depend upon these magazines, are not at the table when the deal is being made.The genius of the postal rate structure over the past 215 years was that it did not favor a particular viewpoint; it simply made it easier for smaller magazines to be launched and to survive. That is why the publications opposing the secretive Post Office rate hikes cross the political spectrum. This is not a left-wing issue or a right-wing issue, it is a democracy issue. And it is about having competitive media markets that benefit all Americans. This reform will have disastrous effects for all small and mid-sized publications, be they on POLITICS, MUSIC, SPORTS or GARDENING.This process was conducted with such little publicity and pitched only at the dominant players that we only learned about it a few weeks ago and it is very late in the game. At the most basic level, the Environment can be described as a collection of organic and inorganic systems functioning together to sustain life. Art is a uniquely human representation and expression of the interaction with these systems. The Eco Art Exhibition is a sampling of the many ways in which the natural environment is represented in contemporary artwork. Through a variety of mediums, the natural environment is transformed from a neutral network of external processes into works of beauty, political statement, and intellectual conception.

Morgana Matus '07 is a Senior Environmental Studies Major at Pitzer College. Through a lifelong dual interest in science and the arts, she has pursued studies in biology, sociology and art history. By attending a liberal arts college, she is able to examine the intersections between seemingly separate disciplines and create a more well-rounded and inclusive view of the natural environment.

Well i ve been slacking on the posts lately. however i ve been quite busy tending to my 9-5 my wife and kids and concentrating on the painting. I wanted to post an email that i just recieved from our local food source and pass it on to you. I have been pretty sick to my stomach about some of the things going on with our food sources for a few years now and haven t really done to much about it besides make sure i try to by a majority of our food from local and known sources. The recent decisions about cloned animals going to the market place creeped me out though and i figured it was time to start doing a lil more about it and try to post more about whats happening with our foods and agriculture in general (which this blog was supposed to concentrate on partially any how). Dear Supporters & Consumers Of Organic Food,

We feel a sense of responsibility as your organic farmers to ask for your help when our food choices are being threatened. We know our voice as a csa is heard, so please let's get involved and be a part of positive change. We hope you enjoy our new email segment this year-Food News From The Farm.

There has been a lot of negative reports about our food lately in the news, it seems everywhere we turn we're hearing about cloned animal meat, genetically modified animals, grains, vegetables, fraud & mislabeling of organic products (Wal-Mart). The truth is the only way to really know your food is to know your farmer. We understand it may feel a little unrealistic to have a connection with every aspect of your consumption, but we know there are channels available to us all right here in Michigan where we can make an impact. So we're asking you to get involved. See below for how to take action.

First concern among a lot of farmers and consumers is the NAIS program. Basically it's an animal id program. Many people think this is going to over burden the small producer and force them out of the market place. While we are able to understand the concerns facing the conventional food systems i.e. dealing with mad cow, cloned and genetically modified animal products entering out food chains in the near future. The USDA will need a system to track down (ha) the contaminated food source. We wish they could see the answer lies not in id tags, but in sustainable organic farm
practices. Stop feeding animal protein tubs (proteins tubs used in conventional systems contain the carcasses of animals, as a source of "protein"), keep the animals on pasture, stop feeding hormones & antibiotics as part of their regular diet, stop mass confinement of animals. If we could stop feed lots and the practices kept in that mass production system we wouldn't have to worry about mad cow, they wouldn't have to feed hormones and antibiotics as part of their regular diet. Cows
like to eat grasses, it's just that simple.
I was very disappointed to read the other day that some scientists solution to mad cow is not a simple dietary change, but to genetically modified the animal to not produce prions! Deep down I know why these changes are made, because they (big ag business) can make lots of producers dependent on their costly course. Costly in many ways....way beyond just dollars & cents.
Our approach as organic farmers is just far too simple, feed & take care of your animals well. Big business doesn't want to go the organic route because there is far too much money made in the conventional farming arena (not the farmers, just the manufactures of ag related products). From the excessive drugs the animals are fed to the petroleum based fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and the genetic modification of the crops grown to feed them, there's some mighty big hands in those pots. I'm talking about Monsanto, Cargill, ADM-the latest commercials from these companies really scare me, the king of spin, they want you to believe they care about your health and the health of our environment. Nothing could be further from the truth. They just want to control the market place, control the food-right
down to the seed, and take away your food choice.
Maybe we're just one of the lucky ones. Our beef operation is small, and it really works for us. We have a small herd of certified organic registered black angus. We brought the animals to the farm to aid in soil fertilization over 8 years ago. We also use the beef herd as part of our crop rotation program. We are also a breeding operation for another organic farmer in the area (Elmer Slabaugh) he takes all of our steers, and raises them for purchase. We are also blessed to have right here in Yale a family owned organic processor. C Roys. So maybe it's just our situation, but I can track my animals without a special computer tracking chips. Computer chips that cost money, require special software to report, and to be quite
honest we really don't have time to add this into our already busy schedules. What we will spend time on is growing your good food :

Immediate Action Needed to Protect Our Food Supply! Fight Cattle ID!

We face a serious threat to our food supply. The Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA) has pushed through a requirement to add a new electronic tag to all cattle by March 1, 2007, just 6 weeks from now. This is a needless, costly procedure that will saddle small family farms with practical, financial, and ethical burdens. Many may leave the business rather than comply, or be forced out by the costs. While this is being done under the guise of the tuberculosis program, it is also the start of a
federal program, called the National Animal Identification System (NAIS), which will bring all animals (including pets) under massive government surveillance.

MDA's plan will harm both farmers and consumers. Please contact our Governor and ask her to halt the program until reasonable alternatives can be found.

What to do - Contact the Governor:
Between Wednesday, January 17, and Friday, February 9, call, fax, e-mail or write the Governor. Focus on just one or two points in each message. State your name and address and ask the Governor to stop implementation of the Michigan Mandatory Animal Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Program. This is the only way we can stop this with so little time left.

We need 3,000 messages to get her attention enough to act. We can do this!

(1) contact the Governor yourself and

(2) forward the alert to 10 friends.We need to reach farmers and consumers throughout the state with this
request!

Talking points

Economic Damage. NAIS and the Michigan's Mandatory RFID Cattle tagging program will drive farmers and ranchers out of business and hurt Michigan's economy.

There has been no cost analysis by USDA or MDA. Costs of the program = the cost of the tags, hardware, software, and labor.

Small farmer and ranchers will pay these costs, and many cannot afford it.

Service providers (veterinarians, feed stores, auction houses, meat processors, etc.) will be harmed whenthe farmers and ranchers go out of business.

Remaining farmers will pass the costs on to consumers, lowering demand for local foods.

The Governor's Michigan Food Policy Council recommended increasing the purchasing of Michigan-grown food products, supporting local farmers, to stimulate Michigan's
economy. MDA's program undermines goals. Exporting isn't the answer for Michigan's local farmers. They should not have to tag if they're not exporting. No Scientific Basis. Neither the USDA nor the MDA has scientific proof show that this will improve disease control.
It does not address the cause, treatment, or transmission of disease, in domestic or wild animals.

It does not significantly improve on current methods for identification
and tracking of disease. Even with

the RFID program in place, MDA recommends farmers still keep
written field records. So, farmers must now use two systems.

Not for Food Safety The program will not improve food safety. USDA itself has stated that this is not a food safety program. Contamination of food with e. coli and other bacteria occurs at the slaughterhouse or afterwards.

Not About Terrorism. The program will not protect against terrorism. The microchips chosen by the state can be cloned, destroyed, or infected with computer
viruses, and reprogrammed. Any terrorist or thief can use this.

The database of information will be created by Michigan but available to USDA. Government databases can be hacked into.

Unconstitutional. The NAIS and Michigan's mandatory Cattle RFID tagging program infringes on people's constitutional rights, including due process, privacy,
and religious freedom. MDA's proposal to address religious concerns isn't fully defined.

Voluntary Federal NAIS USDA states that NAIS is voluntary at the federal
level, so there is no "federal mandate requiring MDA to move forward with this program.

The MDA has signed a Cooperative Agreement with USDA, however, and is
also getting federal funds for implementing the cattle tagging program.

MDA is following funding, not the will of the citizens of the state.
MDA also has a conflict of interest because one of the main officials
implementing this program, Kevin Kirk, is the Treasurer for an industry organization (NIAA) that is advocating for NAIS.

No Legal Basis. MDA is implementing this new program via policy change, with no new legislation or the normal regulatory process

Without any pre-notification, the MDA simply assigned a USDA premises
number to all people who had herds tested in the TB Eradication program, which may lead to expensive litigation over misuse of people's information.

CONCLUSION: Many legislators are prepared to address the issue, but they need more time. We implore the Governor to stop this program before March

Show Overview:

For Square Foot, Blaine will be doing a site-specific installation in our front room, along with displaying a small selection of new works. The front room is going to be covered from floor to ceiling with old pieces of wood that Blaine has been foraging about for during the past couple of months. Varying in depth and several layers thick in places, nestled in amongst the massive wood installation will be new works from Blaine on display for the first time. For our main gallery space, Blaine has brought together a group of over 50 artists, ranging the entire spectrum of the current movement. From graffiti and fine art to illustration and design, all facets of the movement are on display. They have all created works on 12” x 12” wood panels that Blaine built and provided to them. The works in the group show will be exhibited in a random grid pattern, and all will be tied together by graphic flourishes that Blaine will be adding to the main gallery space.

Solo Art Show

Detroit based 7teen / Dennis Hayes, brings his signature style of
harvested found materials and a conceptual approach based in reference
to the environment to his character based paintings. Drawing on the
influence and attitudes of street art, and the scientific and technical
approach of Audubon Nature renderings, Hayes develops a catalogue of
interconnected figures and animals executed on supports formed out of
his surroundings.

marker drawing from a couple of months ago.... just a lil updater for any of yous interested. I will be having a few shows coming up in July. First to bat is a solo show that i will be having at Le Gallery in toronto. In the batters box i will be part of a group drawing show out in LA at 1988 Gallery (images will be posted as soon as i send them out that way). and hitting cleanup is a show out in Victoria British Columbia at the Sunset Room for a book release that i have some work in. its 200 hundred pages with some great artists (mostly canadian- i suppose i am an honorary canadian because i could sing the canadian national anthem and i have some serious troubles singing the US anthem) If any one is interested in getting a copy of the book email at 7teen@7teen.us. the books retail at 12 bucks and is in Black and white. cheers

This guy is a good friend of mine who is graduating from Cranbrook this year. Just went and checked out the Grad Show at cranbrook and it was quite fun. Lots of good stuff this year. Matt focuses on paper engineering for his 3d work and on chance for his drawings using computer translation as a source. Very cool stuff and its always a treat to go and see what he s working on. Just returned home from a fun trip out to LA for the week. Saw a lot of great art and a lot of shit art as well. but i ll focus on the good stuff. any how great people and great fun in the sun. One of the great finds (my opinion) was this guy kiel johnson. stuff is very fun and love the line quality. kinda fell into the gallery by accident and was quite impressed with the work that was being shown. At that time i purchased a coloring book of his that i still cherish and find greatly amuzing. Blowin Up. This gal is hot as you can get in the painting world. Originally from the detroit area she headed to Cleveland Institute of arts and then on to Colombia University to recieve her MFA. Since she has been getting huge in the scene i have found it funny how many ways i am in a one degree seperation from her from friends of hers from the CIA days and also through colombia. It s been fun hearing stories about her life from friends that no her. Her work is definetly something you should take a look at. When i was up in toronto just prior to the New Year i stayed at this hotel called the gladstone which was a sweet lil hotel that all the rooms were designed by a different artist and the halls doubled as a gallery. Any ways accross the hall from our room was this painting by Kris Knight. I absolutely loved this painting. Thomas Campbell is an incredible artist, producing all kinds of colorful, and intrigueing work. I saw some of his stuff during the ‘Beautiful Losers‘ exhibit at the CAC in Cinncinati. This guy paints, sculpts and takes some of the most beautiful photos. He also produced a surfing video called seedling. Haven t seen it yet but i am sure i will soon. I would love to have something of his in my collection at some point. keeping my fingers crossed that i can get the oppertunity someday.

I have been looking at a lot of barns (more so silos) for inspiration. I have a feeling it is because its a symbol of food for me. Aliright about a few weeks late but here is one of Chris Ryniaks paintings. I had a chance to meet this Detroit native a couple of weeks ago when i was hanging out with the Chung. Chris gave a lecture to the illo dept at CCS that day. I guess they also did a critique that was quite amusing. any how i ve been a fan of chris' work for only a short time. It was when i saw his lil piece at the dunny show at CPOP that i flipped my shit. Bill Fick (http://cockeyedpress.com/) is an artist that makes lino cut prints that are usually pretty huge. His stuff is based a lot on old comics and pork products. He was a visting artist at Cranbrook, which is where i meet him, and i got to see a ton of his work. I also got a print which is sweet. well i ll stop rambling. go enjoy his work.

This man s work has been some of the most impressionable work i have seen in awhile. The story of his work is pretty intresting. This man is also the Father of Conservation. The way he got that title was by killing thousands of birds and then noticing that they weren t as plentiful as when he first started killing them and wrote about how that concerned him. Any ways check out the book Audubon baby elephant folio. Quite the book.
