This man does some great "americana" paintings. A lil on the retro end but beautiful never the less. his colors tend to be simple and to the point and works extremely well for his work. love it. reminded about it from Thinkmule s blog the lumper lumper.blogspot.com/ (great blog check it out, i have a feeling i ll be borrowing a lot more before my days are done) and you can also check out Rob Mars work at www.robertmars.com

Keeping on the ("Chris") Mars tip.
here is another artist with Mars in the name. This surrealist is the drummer from the now defunct band "the replacements". this guys work doesnt strike me as much as mars 1 but surrealism doesn t always tickle my fancy either. Mars is extremely talented and is one of the top american surrealest of our time. His prices prove that, This piece fetches $35,000. go and puruse his site www.chrismarspublishing.com/

Dana Shutz
Blowin Up. This gal is hot as you can get in the painting world. Originally from the detroit area she headed to Cleveland Institute of arts and then on to Colombia University to recieve her MFA. Since she has been getting huge in the scene i have found it funny how many ways i am in a one degree seperation from her from friends of hers from the CIA days and also through colombia. It s been fun hearing stories about her life from friends that no her. Her work is definetly something you should take a look at. Got a good link from the detroit arts blog and here is where you can peep her colorful and fun paintings.

Ray Hutchins - Childhood hero
When i was a kid (and still) I was always intrigued with these aviation books that always had "colored profiles" of planes done by this Illustrator Ray Hutchins. His name is super tough to find in any of the books but the other guy that kinda compiled got all the credit. Any how had the books out and thought i would spread the love.
MRS Tubs of wetlands

Amy Ruppel
I was so upset when i went to pr1mary spaces opening in december to find all of her paintings sold within the first like 10 min. There were i believe four beautiful lil encaustic (spelling?) paintings of birds. And if you haven t noticed by now i am a bit of a sucker for them. Any how i was happy to hear that Carrie and Jaime of Primary are going to be working with her more in the future. You can Peak at her wonderfully simplistic paintings and stuff at www.amyruppel.com
